Where to begin?
Hello you necrotic freaks!
Okay, Since I can't stand it anymore, I really want to make a MM. I always have, just didn't want to spend the time on another character(I have 4). My question is not what build I should use, I can find those all over these forums, but where should I start. Good, old fashioned Tyria or new, pimped out Cantha? I am sure one is probably better than the other. I just wanted to know from everyones experiences which campaign would be best for a new MM to start in.
Also, if you could, please tell me of any worries I should have becoming a MM. Thank you for your time!

There is no better area to start for MM. Starting in Cantha will make you lvl 20 fast. Starting in Tyria you'll have to grind your way to lvl 20 So make it in Cantha or Tyria, it wont matter.
PS: Is your avatar from some game boy zelda game?

Thanks for the info. I may have to start in Tyria after looking at the Cantha models. I just love the Devil-lock hair style. I think the looks will tide me over with the grind.
(Not really fond of the Cantha appearences for the necro incase you couldn't tell).
As for my avatar, it isn't from Zelda, it is the original Black Mage from first Final Fantasy. He likes to dance, can't you tell.^_^

I agree that Tyrian looks better then Canthan, but are you going to let appearance decide?
The exact same guy's are in zelda for game boy...like oracle of seasons or something Hehe.

Haha, that is insane. I am sure there is some difference from my avatar to the oracle or whatever.
Also, ofcourse I am going to let appearance decide, I am going to ahve to look at his ugly mug throughout the entirey of the game. And they will both hit 20 sooner or later. Maybe not the same skills at certain parrts of the game, but they will be mine soon enough. Muhahahaha!!!!
<insert diobalical monoluge here>
Anyone else feel like giving their opion on the matter at hand?

Could always make a female, but then you keep getting pestered by sad 12yr old Wammos who think that it's fun

Pestering is no problem for me. I already have 2 female characters(my mesmer because the male one looks retarded and my assassin because she just looks badass.) I spose I can check them out, as well as the armor.
Oh, no one has touched on the subject but is MM still worth it since the updates?

Being a MM in Tyria can be a pain in the ass in some places now since the nerf as unlike Cantha, not everything leaves a corpse and the nerf on Verata's Sacrifice was the biggest RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO-up A-net have ever made.
All these people who say being a MM is much better now since the nerf obviously couldn't keep more than 10 alive for any length of time previously.
Only problem you will run into in Cantha, is if there's already a Necro in a group there's a 99.9999% chance He/She will also be a MM and you'll be fighting over corpses and both get hit pretty hard on BotM if you've both got 10

I've never attempted to create a Necro from Canthas, so I don't know about appearances from there, but I love the look of my N/Me from Tyria. She is quite fetching. There is something about looking at a off-white girl with cat-eyes.
Anyway, in Factions, you get Animate Bone Fiend and Minions early. You'll have to travel far to cap those, or even farther to get them for free in a quest in Tyria.
If you have the patients for free stuff, then go for Tyria. Bone Horror is the only minion you get, and that is in pre-seering, until you get to Kryta.
My decision, if you got time, go for Tyria.
Good luck and happy MMing.

Ok, your last paragraph is correct, having two MMs means you have to be more careful about who is casting BoTM and sharing corpses, but its not impossible.
OTOH your first two paragraphs are just wrong. MMs were just brought back down to earth from being the gods of the battlefield. I have yet to hear from anyone that the pre-nerf MM was not the most dominant character in the PvE realm. Once they got their army rolling, it was a cakewalk to take down mobs. MMs made ToPK a walk in the park, MMs could solo many areas - if you count soloing using yourself and 40+ bodies to do the damage.
MMs were plainly overpowered for the PvE realm.
Where should a new MM start up? Starting in Cantha will give you access to a true MM setup earlier. Many necros don't go MM in Tyria until they've reached at least the northern shiverpeaks if not the jungle (they start up as blood/curse). You can be succesful in either area, so pick the experience that you enjoy more and remember that MMs have it fairly rough until you get near the max level.

Actually they were nerfed because of the PvP whingers in Alliance Battles, notice no one really complained about them being overpowered beforehand, and A-net obviously didnt see them as being overpowered before the Preview event, otherwise they wouldn't have taken so long and right on the eve of the release Factions to nerf the crap out of them.

Now, before this turns into a flamewar... I'll just say that you should consider a Tyrian Necro for the simple fact that you'll be able to unlock a lot of skills via questing. Also, getting to Cantha via Lion's Arch isn't that tough. Then you can buy any skills you want at Kaenig Center. Of course, you'll have to go capture the elites you want, but that's not to tough.
I love my Tyrian Necro. She's my favorite character by far and I've got the 3 million+ experience points on her to prove it. She's a versatile PvP character and a great farmer / PvE character. She's easily earned me 1gp for every two xp points.
